Lombardia Region
Lombardia is one of the largest regions in northern Italy and, given its geographical position, it is close to some of the most characteristic panoramic
countryside for the tourist who wants to get to know our country better: the mountains of the Alps and the renown ski resorts, the beaches of Liguria or the Venetian coast, always full of life in the summer months.
Thanks to the public transportation available in Milano, cities of art like Venezia, Verona, Bologna and Firenze are easily within reach for those who want to admire a small piece of Italian history and architecture.
Lombardia offers mountain landscapes perfect for winter sports, beautiful natural parks and characteristic villages, mostly around the areas of Lake Maggiore, Lake Garda and Lake Como. One particularity of the area is the Oltrepo Pavese, a land of rolling hills and medieval hamlets, that gives its name to a famous type of wine.
The city of Milano
Milano, the capital of Lombardia, is one of the largest economic and cultural centres of Italy, and has always played a leading role in the history of the country because of the importance that this city succeeded in giving to practicality and work, but also to the causes and ideals that led to the unity of Italy in the nineteenth century. Not by chance, has Milano given birth to some of the most active and innovative literary and scientific movements, and some of the most important cultural figures spent time here to share in the city’s state of fermentation. First, among all, the genius of Leonardo da Vinci, who left us the famous “Last Supper” (declared part of the World Heritage by UNESCO) in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the important waterway of the Navigli.
Today, Milano is internationally known as the capital of fashion, design and Italian Style. Milano is always open to cultural and economic innovation coming from abroad, as demonstrated by the many tradeshows, conventions, events and exhibitions that animate the city all year long. One of the most important is the Fashion Week and the Salone Internazionale del Mobile (International Furniture Show).
In view of EXPO 2015 the city is preparing for transformation and renewal on an architectural level, and beyond, in order to compete with the great world
capitals.
